New Prospects After the End of the World

Salutations, ladies and gentlemen!

I would like to begin this post by briefly recounting what has happened since the last entry in this here blog. As most of you have probably noticed, the world hasn't quite ended yet. Then again, perhaps it did, and we just haven't caught up to it yet. Maybe the machines finally revolted and enslaved all of humanity, and most of us simply don't realize it, in which case I welcome our new robotic overlords. What most probably happened, though, is precisely nothing at all (I'm sure you're as shocked about this development as I am). This is not what I want to write about, however, so I shall cut straight to the chase, so to speak. More after the break.

I will most likely not be able to recall a great many things that happened since the last time I posted here, but the important highlights are as follow.

I'm writing a short story whenever I feel like it. I'm not a great writer, but every now and then I can produce something that is not immediately perceived as terrible and best to be cleansed with fire. I will post the entire story on this blog, either as a separate post, or (more likely) as a link to some external site (I'm not sure what the character limit on this blog is, or if there even is one, but I would imagine that it won't be enough), when I'm done with it and fairly convinced it's at least somewhat worth troubling people about. All I'm willing to say for now is that it's a science fiction story.

I have, for the most part, set aside all of my old projects in favour of what I am going to speak about in the next paragraph. I may or may not return to them when the opportunity presents itself. For now, all work on my projects has ceased, and shall not continue until further notice. I realized I lack the resources to make any of my ideas into reality, and I do not want to settle for anything subpar.

I have switched to game development for the Android platform (using Unity 3D) - this is probably the most important change that I have to announce this fine night, and one that I feel most excited about. You see, the thing that I have always had the most problems with is the scale of my projects. Oh, I had many small and possibly fun ideas, but they just couldn't work on a PC - not if I ever want to make money on my games. Developing games for mobiles solves this issue perfectly, and I am already familiar with Unity 3D, so the switch was very easy for me to make. The entire switch went rather smoothly and I have nothing to complain about so far. I'm currently in the process of making a rather small game for Android, with more stuff coded almost daily, so, as opposed to my other projects, this one does have some chance of actually being finished someday (hopefully soon). More info on that in future posts.

I want to change the format of this blog into something more regular. I am thinking of regular, small updates spruced with a few random images from my current project, whatever that may be at the time (unless no image can be procured, for any reason). Silly images are to be expected. Yet, for all the tomfoolery that will no doubt take place here, one thing I am not going to do is lie to you, or hide information about my progress. If I have some very nasty bugs that I can't figure out (or couldn't, even if it is only due to my stupidity rather than anything else), you will most likely be able to read about it here (if not in detail, then at least as a short mention somewhere in the post). I fully realize that I am not the best game developer on the planet, far from it in fact, but I try to improve in that area whenever possible, and I do believe that great strides have been made in the past few years.

I do not know when my next post will be, as I have not yet decided on the format of the abovementioned updates, but you can rest assured - it is coming. It may even happen this year, provided we are not eaten by eldritch horrors from beyond the veil of time and space.

Heh, I have only just noticed that each paragraph starts with an "I". I'm very tempted to change the very first line of this post, so it'll match. And on that note, I shall go to sleep, for it is 1am and I have to get up to work at 9 (late shift this time, so I may yet live).

Thanks for reading, and I wish you all a very joyful New Year!
